With a brand new client in the finance category, we were charged with taking the brand out of all the normal category conventions that finance brands usually find themselves in and bring fresh thinking and human emotion to the top. We did that by launching the global campaign “Backing You”. We stayed true to the brand strategy “QuickBooks backs those that back themselves” and focused our efforts on real people. Instead of using actors and big name companies to launch our campaign, we partnered with real business owners to bring our message to life and throughout the production process, we employed mainly small businesses and independent vendors to do the work itself. These ranged from security crews and set dressers to caterers and lighting pros. The team even stayed at boutique hotels while filming on location.
The highlight of the campaign for us was the music. We licensed Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster” and went to great lengths to find an up-and-coming artist to cover the song. We eventually found the wildly talented 13-year old Willa Amai, who not only gave us an incredible soundtrack for our campaign but also allowed us to help an emerging artist launch her own career in an unconventional way. Following the huge success of “Backing You”, QuickBooks: Backing Music was launched around the Grammy’s to promote Willa and her entire team of small businesses with a total reach of 45MM across Social.
Continuing our mission to back small business, when the movie award season approached and the spotlight was on the big names in Hollywood, we decided to give credit to the unsung heroes of film.
How? By taking the credits from the end of a movie and playing them at the beginning. In 60 seconds, we highlighted the behind the scenes crew of ‘A Star is Born’, and put them immediately before the film itself in movie theaters across the country. Backed with posters, an online film, a social media campaign and a day of free profile headshots for the wider industry community, our film gave credits where credit is due.
